Like board games? Like wine? Wine games make great gifts for the wine enthusiast.
In the Karafe wine game everyone becomes a winemaker and goes through the process any winemaker normally would. This wine tasting game is a combination of Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Life with a wine theme.
First, you acquire capital, then you buy a vineyard, harvest your grapes, bottle your wine and then you sell your wine. You navigate the board answering questions. There are two levels of questions – sippers and connoisseurs, so everyone can enjoy the game and learn something new.
There is also an opportunity to try a blind wine taste test. You will need 2-4 bottles of wine. You will open the wine at the beginning of the game and have everyone taste the wine and take notes for later. On about 25% of the question cards instead of a question there will be the words wine taste test. Here’s where the real fun begins. The person who gets a wine taste test must turn his or her head while the opponents pour a sip into their glass. Then they have to properly identify which bottle it came from in order to have successfully answered the question and be allowed to do what the space says. Here is where you use your notes from the tasting you did before you started actual play.
